Reimagined employees incentive programme that boost upsells to walk-in customers

Driving Daily Motivation at checkout through visible everyday goals & control that rolled out to 4,500+ stores

Overview

Circle K needed a simple way to show weekly goals, and cash incentives right where cashiers work so every transaction can lift the basket.

As a solo designer for POS Platform, I worked towards compact set of motivation patterns that connect offers to progress and rewards in real time.

Context

Scale: 16,700 stores across NA and EU, with ~3,000 self‑checkout locations; cashiers drive most upsell.

Hardware is a 7‑inch, low‑res (360px) counter screen tied to the POS; lighting and placement vary by store.

Goal

Make store goals, progress, and rewards easy to see for store employees and act on at the register

Problem

44% drop in average upsell/day over 2 years, glitches in platform, inconsistent visuals, and no feedback loop during the sale.

Insights

Cashiers liked incentive programme but needed visible targets, new cashiers often didn’t know the program, managers coordinated store weekly targets manually.

Approach

Talked to CSRs and managers across two stores and geographies and mapped day‑in‑the‑life to locate the best “moment to motivate.”
